While I have added Portmeirion to my special places It would be very remiss of me to start to describe this magical village, designed and built by the celebrated Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between1925 to 1975 . So I will say a few words about Sir Clough who sadly passed away on April 8th 1978 then you can click on the link and visit the web site of this beautiful place created by the great man.

Sir Clough served with the Welsh Guards as a tank commander during the first world war, winning the Military Cross and bar. However, despite the destruction and bloodshed, he always wanted to be an architect and maintained the hope of finding a place somewhere in the world where he could work with nature to create the vision he had in his mind. He visited countries in the Southern hemisphere in an attempt to find such a site, but thankfully in the end he came home to Wales.
